OPEN SPACES: Participation and Presence during the openart Lausitz Biennale 2026

In Brandenburg’s Lusatia, the vastness of space and the tranquility of openness create a fertile environment for creativity. Artists, committed cultural practitioners, and small-scale initiatives seize these opportunities to rejuvenate neglected places and prevent their decline. In doing so, they improve local living conditions, radiate positive energy, and reflect the diversity of Lower Lusatia, thereby enriching the regional community.

OPEN SPACES, a distinctive format of the Lausitz Biennale 2026, provides a platform for the collaborative exhibition of this creative potential. Artistic production in Lusatia becomes visible and interconnected across district boundaries, fostering exchange and accessibility.

Open Spaces – New Dimensions

Participants are encouraged to submit their ideas and proposals in addition to the Biennale-designated locations. Possible venues include artist studios and offices in the region, as well as historic train stations, churches, courtyards, barns, abandoned shops, and other unique spaces. The focus is on the visual arts, including painting, photography, sculpture, installations, sound, and light art. Complementing these are live events such as performances, curated readings, seminars, practical workshops, and hands-on activities.

Please Note
All selected OPEN SPACES campaigns, events, and studios will be promoted regionally and nationally as part of the Biennale 2026.

If you would like to participate in OPEN SPACES, please send your contact details in advance to office@openart-lausitz-biennale.de. Once registration opens, we will contact all interested parties. Currently, registration is temporarily unavailable for formal reasons.
